THE REAL RIGHTS TOUR - DAY TWO
Nashville, TN & Louisville, KY

Day 2 was a double dose of action and of building strong new bases of support in the battle for Fair Food in two great Mid-South cities -- Nashville, Tennessee, above, where the Truth Tour crew exposed the poverty beneath the golden arches...

... and our home away from home, Louisville, Kentucky -- the town where the revolution in human rights at the heart of the fast-food industry began -- where friends from the Taco Bell boycott brought new life to the 2006 Truth Tour with great new signs and some good old fashioned solidarity!

The Louisville picket was a strong action that started before the Truth Tour crew even made it to town and doubled in size once the caravan reached the city...

And did we mention the signs? Louisville allies put some real love into making signs for the next phase of the Campaign for Fair Food...

Just a few highlights of the L-ville signage, which were very generously donated to the Tour...

...

And, of course, McDonald's made sure to document the spectacle, though this team seemed to lack the special something of the other crack camera crews at the first two actions... While one seems to be having a hard time with the camera, the other appears to be contemplating crossing the line and switching sides...

These fellas, though, seem to be quite content in their role of taking pictures, as they did at the Nashville protest, of poor people asking for simple justice from a corporate giant. Go get 'em, fellas!

Picture this, fellas. The Nashville protest was lively and enjoyed a great dynamic with the bumper-to-bumper lunch-hour traffic, with honks of support filling the air...

... and mixing with the protest's own rhythms to make a beautiful noise.

[OK, so it's been a little difficult to switch gears... just pretend the sticker's not there...]

Santiago Garcia stood tall in the street, after earlier sharing a terrible story at a meeting with our Nashville allies of being beaten by his field supervisor for questioning the farm's hour-keeping practices and refusing to work overtime off the clock.

While the Louisville protest definitely took the prize for best signs, the Nashville action didn't do too badly for itself, either.

And finally, as always, the day was one for building ties of friendship. In Nashville, it was meeting a new friend, Juan Canedo, the director of an exciting new organization in Nashville that is working hard to defend immigrant rights and open the social world of Nashville to it's fast-growing Latino community. Here he holds Anjeli, the Tour member who must appear once a day in the daily updates because she is just that cute.

While in Louisville, it was honoring a fallen friend in the struggle for human rights, Anne Braden, who passed away just weeks ago after a long life dedicated to fighting for racial and economic justice throughout the South. Here a CIW member presents the Kentucky Alliance, a grassroots organization Anne helped co-found over three decades ago, with a framed picture of Anne holding a workshop for dozens of young activists during last year's Truth Tour. She will be missed, but never forgotten.
