CIW heads to New York for full schedule of celebration and action: Freedom From Want Medal ceremony, Food Sovereignty Prize ceremony, and a Wendy’s Action!

After many months of anticipation, the CIW is on the road to the Big Apple for a week of celebration and, of course, action. In true CIW fashion, we are hitting the ground running in New York with a protest at Wendy’s this very afternoon. We are proud to say that we will be joined at the Wendy’s action by this year’s winners of Food Sovereignty Prize, presented by the US Food Sovereignty Prize. This year’s winner are a remarkable group of food justice leaders hailing from Mali, the Basque Country, Haiti, and India.

If you can be in New York City at 1 PM today, join us at Union Square for the action!  This evening, after everyone has rested up from the protest (and the two-day road trip north!), the CIW crew will be attending the Food Sovereignty Prize ceremony at Cooper Union.

And, of course, the highlight of the trip is the Roosevelt Four Freedoms Awards ceremony. After two decades of work, the CIW will be recognized with the Freedom from Want Medal alongside luminaries such as Nobel Prize laureate Paul Krugman and author/environmental hero Wendell Berry. The ceremony will take place on Wednesday evening at 6:00 pm at St. James Episcopal Church.

Hope to see you there for what is sure to be a beautiful couple of days in New York!
