TODAY:  Student/Farmworker Alliance names Wendy’s “Fast Food Grinch” of 2016!  Post YOUR video to Wendy’s on social media…

Today, kick off the holiday season by joining the Fair Food Nation for a special social media action in the Wendy’s Boycott!

This year, students and young people have a special twist for their online call to action in the Campaign for Fair Food:  Changing the heart of a penny-pinching, mean-spirited scoundrel who is determined to extinguish the hope of a vibrant and hard-working community.

But why, you might ask?  In the words of the great Dr. Seuss:

Now, please don’t ask why.  No one quite knows the reason.
It could be his head wasn’t screwed on just right.
It could be, perhaps, that his shoes were too tight.
But I think that the most likely reason of all
May have been that his heart was two sizes too small…

That’s right, the Student/Farmworker Alliance has declared Wendy’s to be 2016’s official Fast Food Grinch!  And SFA is calling on you to let the misguided executives of the fast food giant know that you will be boycotting their stores until they come to sit at the table with farmworkers with a short video on social media.

Here is the SFA network’s official call to action:

“…the SFA network is officially branding Wendy’s as the “Fast Food Grinch” of the year – and we’re putting out the call for students and youth to let the hamburger giant know they won’t get away with trying to steal farmworkers’ fundamental human rights!

Today, take action by submitting short videos to Wendy’s on social media!  Be sure to include your name, where you’re joining from and why you’re boycotting the Fast Food Grinch. Upload your 30-second video to Facebook or Instagram – or send it over to organize (at) sfalliance.org.  Don’t forget to tag @Wendys and use #FastFoodGrinch and #BoycottWendys!

If you need some more inspiration as you’re getting your video ready for this Friday, check out these Wendy’s Boycott resources.

As students and young people across the country join the Wendy’s boycott, the fast food giant will realize that their stubborn resistance to joining the Fair Food Program is in vain.  Farmworkers and their allies will not be deterred from the belief that responsibility for ensuring human rights and fair wages for farmworkers must be shared by the multibillion dollar companies that most profit from their labor.

And this national boycott will only end with Wendy’s having a change of heart, just as the Grinch did, and joining farmworkers at the table.

Anyone who has read the story of this particular villain also knows how it ends:

“So he paused.  And the Grinch put his hand to his ear.
And he did hear a sound rising over the snow.
It started in low.  Then it started to grow…”

Yes, as every child knows, the collective spirit of generosity — and indomitable love for their fellow Whos — that united the residents of Whoville remained unbroken that day, despite the Grinch’s predations, as will ours here in Fair Food… ville, too!

And at the end of the day, even the most lonely villain, with a heart two sizes too small, will come to the table, unable to resist forever that unbreakable spirit of hope and generosity.

So remember, Wendy’s, when you come knocking, we will be here to welcome you!
