TEDMED to feature CIW’s Gerardo Reyes Chavez, Greg Asbed as speakers for 2018 annual conference!

CIW to join scientists and other luminaries, including former U.S. Surgeon General, on stage in California for TEDMED 2018!

This November, TEDMED, an independent branch of the world-famous TED Talks conference, is convening in California, bringing together over a dozen powerful speakers to share “ideas worth spreading.”  We are thrilled to share the news that among those on stage will be the CIW’s own Gerardo Reyes Chavez and Greg Asbed who, in a rare TED Talk double-billing, will together share a the groundbreaking new paradigm of Worker-driven Social Responsibility with the TEDMED audience.  While the mainstream TED series focuses on “technology, entertainment, and design” (TED), TEDMED focuses on the world of science and public policy:

TEDMED bridges the gap between science and the public by finding and sharing stories that inform, inspire, engage and provoke action across a broad, passionate community both inside and outside of health and medicine. TEDMED values inclusiveness, multi-disciplinary collaboration and diversity in its mission to catalyze a healthier world.

Our annual event brings the world together to focus on what’s new and important in health and medicine. We forge partnerships with industry leaders, medical research institutions, think tanks, government agencies and foundations, to ensure that cutting-edge biomedical thinking, innovation in healthcare and large scale global public health opportunities are shared across disciplines and made accessible to the public at large.

Year-round, TEDMED engages a community of dedicated change-makers in dynamic conversations through social media, TEDMED Talks and a variety of programmatic efforts leveraging dynamic partnerships.

The upcoming TEDMED Conference will be attended by hundreds of audience members and a dozen fellow speakers, ranging from a public health criminologist to a former U.S. Surgeon General.  The audience, of course, is not limited to those who attend the conference itself – TED Talks have been viewed over two billions times around the world.  This year, the TEDMED conference’s theme is “Chaos + Clarity”:

Typically, clarity is thought to emerge from chaos. But as we explore these conditions more deeply, we are inspired by their entangled nature, each acting as provocateurs in their own unique ways…

…At TEDMED 2018, we’ll recognize and embrace the power of Chaos+Clarity in advancing science, global public health, and medical innovation across a wide range of topics. Together, we’ll explore new developments in neuroprosthetics; the global epidemic of chronic disease; how to design our way to better health outcomes; the relationship between immigration and health; the science of aging; social isolation in the age of social media; gender equity and harassment in science and medicine; the trauma of violence and mass casualty; the power of resilience; and much more.

It is an honor for CIW to join the long list of luminaries who have taken to the stage at the many TED events across the globe, which are solution-oriented and extremely inspiring.  We look forward to bringing the transformative model of WSR to the stage!
