Masks in Sarasota...

... In West Palm Beach, Alice Jarvis, 92, told the Palm Beach Post, "Till the day I die, I'll be marching... Seven thousand dollars a year? What's that? As a human being you can't stand by."

... and in Gainesville, Taco Bell's tomatoes were revolting, as angry Mr. Tomato-tron chained himself to the drive-thru lane, glared menacingly at the window, and led the "Attack of the Killer Tomatoes"

April 1, 2001, THE YELL WENT UP...

...BOYCOTT!

EXCERPT FROM CIW PRESS RELEASE on boycott announcement:

"When you look at the difference in power between us as farmworkers and Taco Bell as a billion dollar corporation ...," said Romeo Ramirez, also of the Coalition. "They have all the wealth and political power, and we have only one weapon. But that weapon -- the truth -- is the most powerful thing on earth," continued Ramirez, "so we are certain that we will prevail."

"MONTH OF PROTESTS"

The state-wide Taco Bell Truth Tour hits fits universities in five weekends to build alliances between students and farmworkers, spread word about the relationship between Taco Bell and farmworker poverty and let Taco Bell know that these are our families lives at stake and we're in it for the long haul.

See a selection of photos here below, or click on the following city names for the photos from those protests:

Miami, Tallahassee, St. Petersburg, Bradenton, Gainesville

"Tomatoes and Ironworkers" in Miami! (3/5/01): It wasn't "Turtles and Teamsters", but the Spirit of Seattle was alive and well in Miami on Sunday (3/4/01), as dozens of union brothers and sisters joined farmworkers, students, and four well-dressed tomatoes for a raucous rally ...

Nearly 200 protesters stretched from the Taco Bell to the corner in a spirited and loud show of unity!
