Thanksgiving in Immokalee

NOVEMBER 27, 2008

The CIW’s community radio station, Radio Conciencia, hosted the party, held outside the CIW’s new community center under a bright November sky. CIW members double as DJ’s and techs for the community-run station, and the crew was in fine form on this day, keeping the party alive with music and commentary for more than three hours…

… and from the looks on the faces of those in attendance, they can be proud of their performance, because the party was clearly a big hit.

It was a day packed with activities for the whole family, including the CIW’s own “Galactin,” always a crowd favorite…

… from the older kids…

… to the youngest.

Between events the Radio Conciencia crew kept things moving…

… but it was the games that really got the crowd — several hundred strong all day — going. Here the organizers ask for volunteers for that time-honored party game…

… the sack race.

The stakes are high, and the crowd’s faces reflect the tension…

… felt along the starting line as the racers nervously eye the competition.

Some final words for the crowd…

… and then it’s off to the races! Sweet victory…
