ANNOUNCED: Student/Farmworker Alliance Encuentro, Sept. 29 – Oct. 2!

Students, youth set to gather for annual strategy retreat to amplify the Wendy’s Boycott this season!

After two years of virtual gatherings and strategy retreats, the student wing of the Fair Food Nation has announced it will be hosting its annual “Encuentro” conference in person later this month!  While we’ve been hard at work organizing online for a couple of years, it’s time for some face-to-face strategizing with students and youth across the country to take the Wendy’s Boycott to the next level. This year marks the 21st anniversary of the Student/Farmworker Alliance and we’re ready to open our doors here at the CIW Community Center to welcome young leaders to the birthplace of the Campaign for Fair Food in Immokalee from Sept. 29 – Oct. 2.

The Encuentro offers an opportunity for young people to learn directly from farmworkers about how to get involved in the campaign to bring Wendy’s into the Fair Food Program and learn new skills along the way. Together with CIW leaders, Encuentro participants will create a long-term strategy to continue booting Wendy’s from campuses nationwide and learn how to bring awareness to the national Wendy’s Boycott both online and on the ground in their local communities. Ready to join us in Immokalee from Sept. 29 – Oct. 2? Apply to join us today!

If you’d like to learn more about the Encuentro or how to get involved in the Wendy’s campaign, sign up to join our next network-wide call on Wednesday, Sept 14 at 6 p.m. ET

Make sure to mark your calendars for this year’s Encuentro from Sept. 29 – Oct. 2. Below is the official invitation to join the Encuentro from the Student/Farmworker Alliance:

Encuentro 2022: Juntos Crecemos, Together We Grow

After 21 years of the Student/Farmworker Alliance organizing side by side with farmworkers in Immokalee, this year we’re celebrating over two decades of SFA at our annual Encuentro gathering in person! Students and youth will be converging from all corners of the country to grow and learn from one another in the struggle for farmworker justice. This is also a year of hard work coming to fruition, as we celebrate student-led victories, actions, and growth in our network. Today, we’re inviting you to become a part of the Fair Food movement and join us by traveling to the place where it all started: the vibrant farmworker community of Immokalee, Florida, from Sept. 29 – Oct. 2!

Apply now!

If you can, help us spread the word about the Encuentro to your friends and organizing networks by sharing it far and wide. If you have any questions or ideas to share, reach out to SFA Coordinator Natalia by sending a text or calling 484-538-0403 or email natalia@allianceforfairfood.org.

Please note this year we will be hosting a smaller delegation of student leaders than we have in the past, and space will be limited due to COVID-19 restrictions. We want to make this weekend as safe as possible for both participants and Immokalee community members. We ask that people come prepared to wear face masks throughout the weekend and to take rapid covid tests upon arrival.
