Since visiting Immokalee during Spring Break, a group of students at the University of Notre Dame has picked up the Taco Bell campaign in Indiana and run with it. They have held teach-ins, written op-eds, leafleted, networked, circulated petitions, AND… organized an impressive, bagpipe-led protest in front of a Taco Bell close to the South Bend campus. Their spirit has motivated students throughout the university and at many other schools, where students are organizing to form their own student/farmworker alliance.
Here are some of the stories on their efforts. Clearly, they have made farmworkers’ wages and working conditions — and the connection between those conditions and Taco Bell — the talk of their campus community.
