1) Join us for the 2-mile grand finale on March 18 at 10:30am in Palm Beach, FL!
2) Donate to help offset the cost of transportation, supplies, art creation and meals for an action of this magnitude!
3) Write a message of solidarity for the 100+ farmworkers and allies who are embarking on the 5-day, 45-mile Build A New World March!
On March 14th, just two weeks from today, more than 100 farmworkers and their consumer allies will be stepping off from the small agricultural community of Pahokee — launching the march in the street outside the labor camp where dozens of workers were held against their will in the most recent forced labor prosecution here in Florida — and beginning their 5-day journey on foot to the billionaire enclave of Palm Beach. The reason for the 45-mile march? To celebrate a decade of historic human rights progress under the Fair Food Program, and to demand Wendy’s, Kroger and Publix do their part to end modern-day slavery by joining the Presidential Medal-winning program.
Here at the CIW Center, we’re working around the clock to mobilize the Immokalee community and prepare for marching 45 miles across the Sunshine State. But, we can’t do it alone. We are counting on our vibrant network of allies around the country to help make this a march for the history books!
Here are three ways you can take action leading up to the Build A New World March:
1) MARCH WITH US: If you’re in Florida, register today to join farmworkers and hundreds of allies for the 2-mile grand finale on March 18 in Palm Beach!
Nothing beats taking direct action, shoulder-to-shoulder with workers who for decades have led the charge on combatting forced labor in the fields and pioneering a successful model for farmworker freedom! We’ll be gathering at 10:30 AM at Lake Drive Park, 500 Brazilian Ave, Palm Beach, FL for a lively street theater performance, a program of speakers, and a 2-mile march calling on Wendy’s, Publix and Kroger to join the award-winning Fair Food Program.
The march will step off at 12:30 PM. For more information, including parking and shuttles provided by the CIW, click here!
2) DONATE: If you’re unable to participate in person, you can join our campaign to raise funds for transportation needs, art supplies, water to keep us hydrated and meals to fuel our energy for 5 days of marching!
As the children who make up the CIW’s future tell us in the video above, it takes a lot of preparation and supplies to pull off a march of this magnitude! From reserving buses, to purchasing food and water and stocking up on necessary supplies, costs can rise steeply… which is why we need all the help we can get from generous donors like you! If you have the resources to support us, click here to make a contribution today!
3) SEND A SOLIDARITY MESSAGE: Another way to take part in the Build A New World March is to write a message or send a video of solidarity to the 100+ farmworkers and allies who will be marching over 45 miles throughout the 5-day march!
If you aren’t able to join us in person, we would absolutely love hearing from you while we march! You can make your voice heard by sending a heartfelt message of solidarity for the group of farmworkers and allies undertaking the five-day march. Share with us what fighting for farmworker justice means to you, how CIW’s work fits into your vision of a world of freedom for all, and what you’d like to see from the three Fair Food holdouts we’re targeting in our march: Wendy’s, Publix, and Kroger. Your messages of support will be shared every night with the marches when the day’s march is done, and will keep farmworkers’ spirits high as we celebrate the unprecedented success of the Fair Food Program and demand accountability from multi-billion dollar corporations refusing to join the gold standard for human rights today.
Please send your message or video to workers@ciw-online.org with “Solidarity Message” in the subject line.
We’ve got a lot more to share with you in the next few weeks leading up to the Build A New World March, so make sure to stay tuned as we continue to ramp up efforts in the Campaign for Fair Food!
